Event: Coffee, Sharing, Vulnerability
Reported by Kim Winters
On a recent wet Friday night, the SixTen Fellowship group (20's - 30's class) held a "Coffee House" at a locally owned and operated coffee shop called L’ Koste Villa, all in an effort to provide a meaningful and relaxed time of fellowship outside of church while supporting local business.
As is typical for SixTen, 30 said they would attend and over 70 showed up! So it was standing room only as members of the class crowded in to hear one another share something creative like a poem or a song, many of which were original and some even autobiographical in nature.
When asked her impression, SixTen leader Krista Cochran said, "I was touched by the vulnerability of those who shared - people showed us what was on their hearts which was an encouragement."
L’ Koste Villa (on Fisher road in Mechanicsburg) was the perfect setting for the event, made even more special by the dimmed lights, candles and decorations put out by class members. "The coffee was great as usual," said leader Kim Winters, "and they even allowed us free refills which was an unexpected blessing!"
In between performances, class members spent time chatting and laughing as they took a rare opportunity to catch up with one another and enjoy the fellowship. Toward the end of the evening, Pastor Nate Winters called attention to Christ's sacrifice as he read from a favorite section in the book, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. Said Nate, "There were some newer people there, and some people who had been around for a while. It was good to see everyone and "remember together Aslan’s ‘magic deeper still … from before the dawn of time.'”
Plans for the next SixTen Coffee House (jazz themed) are already underway, so stay tuned!
